Prefer the AirTag Surface Mount much more for its versatility. With the powerful magnet, you have to be mindful around electronics and magnetic media to avoid accidental erasure or damage to data. With the Surface Mounts, you can toss it in your bag or pocket without
thinking about it too much. Just depends on your use will determine which is more practical. Overall, the Magnetic Mount works as designed and intended.

Strong magnet, great case

I hid an AirTag in my car with this, and it holds very securely – can be hard to pry off. It's a well-made case. I also have the ones with tape on the back for my luggage.

Incredible product

I love the other Elevation Labs TagVault products (specifically the fabric mount ones). I was very skeptical that this would survive what I was about to put it through. I just got back from a trip to Iceland and the magnetic tag vault survived nearly 1500km of driving through snow, ice, freezing rain, you name it... we drove through it. We also had to forge a few paths through snowbanks and hit some big bumps--it held on the entire time. I have zero doubts that as long as you give it a flat metal surface to cling to, it'll stay put. The interior was dry after removal, as expected. I was a little worried that the screw cap would come loose after such a prolonged exposure to vibration but as you can see from the picture, it did not. The picture was taken at the end of our trip when returning the rental vehicle.
